What type of skin do I have? How do I take care of it?
08 August, 2018
There are different skin types and they all need care to stay healthy and beautiful.
That is the main objective of skin care cosmetics.
3 basic functions of cosmetics:
- Hygiene
- Moisturizing
- Protection
How to recognize your skin type?
By now we are all very knowledgeable about our skin type and already know what suits us and what does not. But we still recommend that you pay special attention to these aspects:- Degree of hydration: we usually notice when we feel a certain tightness after showering, when micro wrinkles form, if it flakes or if we feel itchy.
- Degree of lipidization: In other words, the level of fat we have in the skin. This aspect is easy to detect because in the evening, the skin in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) is more oily because it is where there is a higher concentration of sebaceous glands (glands that secrete the oil from your skin).
- Presence of pimples or blackheadsif you are prone to have one oily skinIf you are prone to oily skin, it is because your sebaceous glands secrete more, so it is likely to appear pimples or blackheads that we must treat properly.
- Dry skinIf on the other hand your glands secrete less oil, you would have a dry skin. alipic or dry skinand more sensitive skin.
- Normal skin: skins with a more balanced degree of lipidization are generally called "normal".
- Degree of sensitivityNowadays, there is a greater cutaneous sensitivity in general, especially to solar reactions or to the use of certain cosmetics. Generally, this type of skin presents redness y facial heat at specific times.
- Atopic skinAtopic skin: a large part of the population has atopic skin. This type of skin pathology seems to be associated with a genetic and hereditary pattern. It usually feels dry, flaky or itchy. It generally has a poor tolerance to cosmetics and in fact there are specific lines exclusively for atopic individuals.
How to take care of dry or alipic skin?
As we have already explained, when we talk about "dry" skin we refer to skin that does not have sufficient sebaceous excretion. These skins are associated with race and skin phototype to fair skins. Light-eyed blondes, in general, tend to have a more alipic or dry skin and have more need to apply "greasy" moisturizers to somehow compensate for the lack of normal oil that a skin must have to be protected and healthy. Preferably, it is advisable to use hygiene emulsions and not so much soaps, as it is not convenient to degrease them too much. We recommend the Sensitive Toning Make-Up Remover Emulsion with a very light texture. So, if you have this type of skin, you must be very careful with your daily moisturizing! It is a more fragile skin and has an oil deficit, which makes it prone to the appearance of wrinkles. >>To learn more about how to treat wrinkles we suggest this article<<For Dry Skin we recommend:
- Revitalizing Firming Cream from the Caviar Therapy line, with Caviar extract and Hyaluronic Acid
- Anti-age Cream from the Optimal Renewal line with Epidermal Growth Factors (EGF)
- Illuminating Cream of Cellular Expression Vitamin C, with vitamin C and active ingredients that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.
How to moisturize oily skin?
Oily skin also gets dehydrated, yes! Believe it or not, oily skin also needs to be cared for and protected with moisturizers. But, in this case, we will take special care to choose cosmetics free of mineral oils to avoid adding excess oil.For Oily Skin we recommend:
- Gentle and light cleansing emulsions, such as the Balancing Make-Up Remover Emulsion from the Oil Balance line.
- And to moisturize, unlike with alipic skins, it is always better to use serums or very, very light creams.
How to care for combination skin?
We already know that combination skin is skin that is more oily in the center-facial area and less oily on the sides. This is mainly due to a higher concentration of sebaceous glands in the so-called T-zone (forehead, nose and chin). For Combination Skin we recommend:
- Mineral oil free creams and not greasy so as not to over-grease the lateral area, either cleansing emulsions or moisturizing cosmetics.
How to take care of Sensitive Skin?
Nowadays it is very common to say "I have sensitive skin". This type of skin for some reason does not tolerate well some cosmetics, massages, depilation, sun, it gets red easily and sometimes even itchy and hot. The ideal is to always apply simple cosmetics, without excessively complicated formulas and with known active ingredients that we know our skin tolerates (Hyaluronic Acid, Squalene, Thermal Water, Alfabisabolol, etc.). The application maneuvers should be soft, light, trying not to drag the tissues so as not to produce redness. Cosmetics that are not too greasy, such as serums, are ideal because they are easy to apply. For Sensitive Skin we recommend:
- The Anti-Ageing Serum from our Optimal Renewal line. is very well accepted by sensitive and low-tolerance skins, as its formulation contains epidermal regenerating growth factors.
How to take care of Atopic Skin?
Atopic dermatitis is a reaction of the skin where there are skin inflammationvery similar to allergy. It is a chronic and prolonged disorder characterized by dry, scaly and irritable skin with localized outbreaks. In this type of skin there is a deficiency of specific proteins which cause the skin barrier to lose its integrity, so the skin sometimes "reacts" even if the product is mild. If you have this type of skin, constant care is essential to avoid, as far as possible, applying medication. To be taken into account:- Keep the skin moisturized and lubricated. It is important that your cosmetics are free of pigments, fragrances and alcohols.
- Keep the skin well hydrated. This is achieved by applying the treatment product several times a day.
- We do not recommend the use of body or facial soaps, try to look for products specifically indicated for atopic skin.
- Avoid spending too much time in the shower with very hot water, it is preferable to take short showers with lukewarm water. Remember that water irritates, dehydrates and damages your skin barrier.
- Be very delicate when drying your skin, do not rub or scratch it, remember that it is very fragile. A little trick is to keep your nails short, this way you will avoid hurting yourself unintentionally, especially if you get itchy at night.
