How to take care of Oily Skin?

¿Cómo cuidar la Piel Grasa?

Oily skin is a skin type with increased secretion of the sebaceous glands.

Why do I have oily skin?

There are several factors that trigger hyper production of sebum in the skin.

  • Genetic.
  • Hormonal changes and disorders. The sebaceous glands are controlled by hormones.
  • Ingestion of some type of medication.
  • Stress.
  • Application of comedogenic cosmetics.

Characteristics of oily skin

Oily skin can be recognized by the following characteristics:

  • Highly noticeable pilosebaceous orifices (large pores).
  • Some shine, especially on the the T zonewhere there is a higher concentration of sebaceous glands.
  • It is a thickened and not very translucent skin, therefore, blood vessels are not visible as in an alipic skin.
  • It tends to have a yellowish pigmentation.

T-zone: This is the central-facial zone. It extends from the chin, up the facial axis, and extends to the two sides of the frontal area. It is characterized by a higher concentration of sebaceous glands, therefore, it is the most oily area of the face.

This type of skin is characterized by the appearance of several typical elements, reaching the most acute degree can trigger acne. For this to occur, sebaceous hypersecretion, abnormal keratinization and the presence of a bacterium called Propinibacterium Acnes must be added.

On the one hand, elements such as comedones or blackheads appear. These small lesions appear individually, isolated on the entire facial area, necks, back and chest.

They are lesions without inflammation, so we recommend not to touch them in order not to provoke inflammation and thus leave scars.

Another very common type of lesion in oily skin is follicular keratosis, which appears in areas such as the nose, chin and forehead. These are lesions where you can clearly see the pilosebaceous orifice occupied by a dark content, sebum and keratin.

They also appear, especially in girls and in premenstrual periods, small pustules that should not be squeezed so as not to generate lesions that further compromise our skin, with the appearance of scars.

Daily care of oily skin

It is very important to take daily care of your skin, whether it is oily, alipic, combination or normal. It is a habit that your skin will appreciate.

How to cleanse oily skin?

If you have oily skin you have to take into account that this type of skin needs to make special emphasis on daily hygiene.

The skin must be twice a day to cleanse it.

You can use various cosmetics for this purpose. If you apply make-up, it is essential that you remove the make-up with a cleansing emulsion or milk. Look for an O/W emulsion on the market. This type of cosmetic is very well indicated for skins with excess lipids. We recommend: Oil Balance Care Balancing Makeup Remover Emulsion o Sensitive Toning Make-Up Remover Emulsion.

After this step, it is ideal to apply a toning lotion to finish removing the remains of cosmetics, emulsion and make-up, try one of these: Essential Oxygen Mist Hydrovect OR2, Sensitive Thermal Toning Water.

If you notice that your skin still needs a deeper cleansing you can add the use of a soap specially indicated for oily skin. We love the Oil Balance Care Cleansing Gel.

Also you can also combine them:

  • In the mornings: apply the soapy gel in a circular motion over the entire facial area. Make special emphasis on the T-zone, remember that this is the area with the highest concentration of glands that generate cutaneous lipids, which is why it is also where the most unsightly lesions appear, characteristic of skin with a high degree of lipidization (follicular keratosis, comedones, small pustules).
  • If you wear make-up, then you will have to remove it at night, we recommend an O/W emulsion, and then the toner.

If your skin is oily, it is advisable to do not overdo it too much with hygiene, twice is enough to keep it clean and healthy, the excess could produce a rebound effect, causing your glands to secrete more fat to understand that there is a lack, because you are withdrawing in excess.

How to exfoliate oily skin?

Skin exfoliation is a step you cannot skip. Remember that its function is above all to cleanse the skin in a deeper way and, in addition, to make emollient will help the better penetration of principles present in cosmetics.

Ideally, you should exfoliate your skin 2 times a weekKeep in mind not to apply it on red lesions with inflammation, since we could make them worse.

There are several types of physical exfoliants, scrub type and ideally you should do it twice a week. Do not overdo it with this type of cosmetic.

The success of physical exfoliators or scrubs will depend on the depth with which they act, the time you work the product and the size of the silica or particles that exert the "scraping" and dragging effect.

The longer and coarser the particle, the more it fulfills its function of skin abrasion..

If you notice the sensitive skin or that it reddens easily, you will have to consider diluting it with a moisturizing cream or working it for less time and in a gentler way, avoiding the most reactive areas of the skin.

Oily skin care in winter

Skin in winter tends to become more dehydrated, so there is more need to apply moisturizers. This is regardless of whether you have oily, alipic, normal or combination skin.

For oily skin, look for moisturizers in the form of light, non-greasy emulsionsto avoid the uncomfortable sensation of oiliness.

We must always look for the ideal moisturizer for each skin type. The objective is to maintain an optimal water content to slow down the formation of wrinkles.

Oily skin care in summer

Oily skins notice differences in summer, feeling the skin much more oily, so it is advisable to choose moisturizers that are more fluid and less greasy.. This also applies to sunscreenswhich usually have a greasier texture. Look for fluid sunscreens to suit your skin type, avoiding the annoying greasy effect.

In addition, in summer we have the feeling that the skin gets dirtier, so we will have to be very strict with our hygiene protocols.

Follow our advice, and you will notice your skin cleaner and healthier.
