ANTI-AGING AND MOISTURIZING CREAMS
10 October, 2024Nowadays, the term "Anti-Aging-Antiageing" has been reflected upon. The new trends speak of Well-aging Cosmetics which we believe is a concept more adapted to the reality that the best way to age is to accept and at the same time take care of ourselves in an integral way body-soul and mind... and of course we emphasize the skin.
There is no doubt that keeping the skin hydrated and nourished are the ABC's of daily skin care in addition to cleansing and using sunscreen.
IS MOISTURIZING THE SAME AS NOURISHING?
It is not the same, they are two different concepts. Nourishing means mainly providing substances that "feed" our skin. For example lipids, vitamins, proteins, etc. to our skin. In this way, we provide the skin with the elements it needs to be able to generate protection against external factors and also to regenerate itself. In very simple words, it is the action of "feeding" the skin. With these nutrients the skin is able to carry out all the physiological processes that allow it to be healthy and fulfill its correct function.
Moisturizing, on the other hand, means restoring the optimal moisture level, the hydric level of the skin. And in this case, moisturizing is the action of "giving our skin cells a drink".
AND WHERE DOES COSMETICS WORK?
Cosmetics in general act on the most superficial layer of your skin, called the epidermis. This layer fulfills a great function as a protective barrier against many factors, such as climatic, mechanical, micro-organisms, etc., and the integrity of its structure is very important. And a large part of this integrity is provided by proper hydration and nutrition. In short, cosmetic care is essential.
We will quickly tell you how this wonderful mechanism that gives us our skin works:
- On the one hand, the skin cells, the keratinocytes, which are found in the deepest layers of the skin, move to the skin surface, die, lose their original structure, flatten and form a real protective wall. This structure is formed by the so-called corneocytes or dead cells. This superficial layer is where we work with cosmetics.
- On the other hand, the presence of the so-called "natural skin cosmetic" or epicutaneous mantle, which is formed by the excretion of the sebaceous gland, water from perspiration and cellular remains of keratinocytes that have died. These components unite to form a perfect natural emulsion that also protects us.
- And let us also remember that in our skin there is a perfect symbiosis with many types of microorganisms. They feed on our skin but in return they protect us from other pathogenic micro-organisms.
These three structures are what give protection to your skin and this is where cosmetics act. Any deficit in this area affects your natural protection. And one of the most common problems that is easy to remedy is skin dehydration.
Skin with a correct degree of water is a skin that ages more slowly and without a doubt that future and probable wrinkles will be more cared for. In short, skin that is properly hydrated and cared for is healthy skin.
